My Eagles (Non)Prediction

Pre-season NFL Predictions in April are a waste of time

One of the worst things you can do is predict how an NFL team will do in April when the schedule comes out. This is the thing I hate most about this time of the year next to the NFL Draft when all the draft-nicks come out of the woodwork like cockroaches and tell us about how the Eagles should draft some linebacker named Oracle Thomas out of Southwestern Bumblefuck State in the fourth round.

Enough already.

It's foolhardy to make a season prediction this early on when so many things can change within 5 months (i.e. draft picks, trades, signings in camp, etc.). Although the Eagles rarely play their rookies, they could get lucky and get production out of a rook or two. Or, they can make a pick-up or trade in camp. Remember they traded for Donte Stallworth just days before the season began in 2006.

But, the Philadelphia Iquirer's Don McKee must be high if he thinks the Eagles are a 7-9 team.

Look, I'm no front office fluffer, but based on the following they will be at least a 10-win team.

1-Donovan McNabb will be 100% heading into this season.

2-Their linebackers will have a year of experience under their belts.

3-Patterson and Bunkley have another year under their belts and will form one of the top DT tandems in the NFC.

4-Asante Samuel is a huge upgrade over Lito "I get hurt every other game" Sheppard.

Those factors alone will make them better. With that said, they do need a number one wide receiver, return man, and safety amongst some other needs. I'm not ready to write of Tre Thomas or Runyan yet. Linemen last a long time in this league. Just look at Larry Allen, Jackie Slator, and Bruce Matthews for proof.

I'm not going to go through a useless practice of going through the games at this point because it's a waste of time. When training camp arrives that's when I feel it's best to make a season prediction when you have a much better idea of what the team will consist of.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Phils Win!
Phillies win dramatic game by scoring 4 in the 9th to beat the 'Stros

I was so caught up in the Flyers game last night that I didn't get to see the Phillies game. Once the final bell sounded and the Flyers officially won game three over the Capitals 6-3 the Phillies were engaged in a dramatic finish.

They were down 3-0 in the 9th and suddenly came to life and scored 4 runs to take down the Astros, which are run by Ed Wade, yes the same Ed Wade who we ran out of town. That makes this series very important just on that basis.

No way our Phils can lose to DeadWade right?

Well, it was a close call last night until Pedro Feliz knocked in the winning run.

And, the worst third base coach in baseball-Steve Smith almost (expletive deleted) it up again by trying to hold back Geoff Jenkins.

Thankfully Jenkins kept on going and scored the winning run. Jenkins said he couldn't have stopped if he wanted to.

Let's hope some more baserunners can do that when Smith makes more boneheaded decisions this year.

Great win for the Phils. They start it all over again tonight at 7:05.
