Grades...Schmades!

Eagles get their return man and defensive tackle depth

I'm not one of those types that's going to regurgitate everything that you can get off other websites. One thing I will say is the Eagles absolutely raped the Carolina Panthers yesterday.

And, let's not get our panties in a bunch about them forgoing a first round selection for the second year in a row. When a team offers you their first rounder next year, this year's second rounder, and a fourth rounder you'd be a fool to pass that up. Add into that equation the fact that the Panthers are headed for bottom feeder territory this season and the Eagles could very well get a top 5 pick out of that. And, then they can get a franchise left tackle next year to play for the next dozen years.

I know nothing about pretty much all of their picks except for DeSean Jackson, whom was interviewed by our very own Bill Neri-Amadeo. What's the skinny on D Jax? Well he's pretty skinny for one. And, he's the fastest WR in the draft. He's been working out with Jerry Rice for a few months and he will solidify three needs for the Eagles. He'll be used all over the place in their offense and help them as a downfield threat. And, he fill two serious needs on both kickoff returns and punt returns.

Trevor Laws gives them depth at defensive tackle. Don't know much about him other than he's said to be a guy that can get after the quarterback, which Patterson and Bunkley don't do.

The trend in the NFL is to copycat once a team shows you how to be successful at something. Expect a lot of teams to try and copy the Giants' system and get players like Justin Tuck. The Eagles are no exception and drafted a light defensive end with speed in the third round from a small school named Bryan Smith from McNeese State. Don't laugh at the pick. We don't know anything about him. Trent Cole if you recall was picked in the 5th round and I'd say the Eagles made out pretty well with him.

We can't evaluate a draft until about two years down the road. Just now we can evaluate the Eagles' drafts from 2005 and 2006 and say that they got quality players in Patterson, Cole, Bunkley, Gaither, Gokong, and Herremans. But, you can't judge this draft today and probably not for another year.

One thing is clear they pulled a rape job on the Panthers and DeSean Jackson will give this team a playmaker that can contribute immediately. And, isn't that something we've all been pining for?

Now, the scoop I'm hearing from one of my sources is that the Eagles are said to be heavily after Anquan Boldin. This is where the "Lito card" will come in. My source tells me to expect good news very soon on that front.

We shall see.
