Dude, Where Was The Offense?

Phillies' offense completely lays down as Hamels pitches a gem

Those same damn April Phillies are rearing their ugly heads once again.

What is it with this team that every year they begin the season on such a sour note? Is it the cold April nights? Is the fact that they're unconditioned and totally unprepared to begin the season? Or, is it a mental thing like Jayson Werth intimated the other day?

Whatever it is, they were absolutely pathetic. I happen to think it's mental because they do it every year and it has to weigh on their minds.

I'm not shocked at all what transpired last night. As I predicted yesterday on my blog, I said to expect Hamels to pitch lights out for 8 or 9 innings. He happened to do it for 8 innings and only allowed a run. The problem is the offense laid down like a bunch of dogs.

What the Phillies' offense displayed last night bordered on criminal. They didn't even get one damn runner in scoring position. To go from 11 runs in the opener to 1 hit last night is an abomination especially considering Hamels needed their support!

Charlie Manuel needs to have a closed door meeting today to nip this thing in the bud before it gets any worse. There is no such thing as a "must-win game" in the third game of the season like tonight, but they had better stop the bleeding so they don't have another 4-11 start like last year or another 10-14 April like they seem to have EVERY year.

The Phillies have a prime opportunity to get out to a fast start now that Pedro Martinez is on the fritz for the next 6 weeks. Like I said, I'm not that worried about the Mets because aside from Santana and Maine, their rotation is nothing to be afraid of.

But, the Phillies have to get their (expletive deleted) together, otherwise they will spending all summer playing catch-up and they'll be spent by October should they win the division.

Jason Smith hookin' up with Mary Cary

Looks like 76ers rookie Jason Smith got some off the court action at the night club "Butter" in New York City.

But, it was with porn star Mary Carey. Word is she jumped on him and started making out with him.

That's just flat out trifling. I sure hope he disinfected his mouth with alcohol after that makeout session! We're talking a porn star here, not the girl next door! There's no telling where that mouth has been off camera considering where it goes on camera!
