Canada's Team

Flyers win 3-2 despite biased officiating

Sam Donnellon wrote a compelling article in today's Daily News and he's stating what's been all of our minds since the series against Washington. And, that $50,000 question is, are the Flyers being screwed by the officials?

He digs deeper and states that the Canadiens are Canada's Team for the NHL. When you put it into perspective they may very well be.

Look at the horrific calls that have been going on throughout the series and on two occasions a Montreal player struck at a Flyers player and nothing was done last night. In fact, Hatcher was ejected at the same time when Tomas Plekanec deliberately tried to injure R.J. Umberger. And, of course there was a sucker punch thrown at Timmonen and the Montreal coach stated publicly that he deserved it.

Had this been the Flyers all hell, fire, and brimstone would break loose. The Canadiens pretty much get to commit acts of violence while urinating and taking dumps on the ice, while the police just let them do as they please. And, the Flyers who jaywalk are thrown in prison for the weekend or beaten up by the police for failing to come at a complete stop at a stop sign.

I'm with Sam Donnellon on this one. Something is rotten in Denmark and the officials should have to answer for their horrific calls. In fact, Gary Bettman should have some explaining to do. Lord knows he's the worst commish in professional sports and that's saying a lot considering how horrendous of a job Bud Selig has done. Bettman makes Bud Selig look like Paul Tagliabue.

With all of that said, the Flyers overcame the plethora of road blocks thrown their way by the officials and survived, winning 3-2 in a nailbiter.

And, once again Marty Biron stole a game for the Flyers and has resembled a franchise goaltender. He stopped 32 of 34 shots last night en route to the victory.

I will say it now. I was wrong on Biron. He really has shown me something thus far in the playoffs.

Now, he'd better not make me look like a fool! Of course, he does have the officials to blame if he gives up some goals on power plays because the Cans get served powerplays like Red Lobster serves up seafood combos.

The Flyers will face off against Canada's Team tomorrow night, same time 7:00 at The Wach.
