Story Book Night

Sixers defeat the Nuggets 115-113 in a thriller

This game couldn't have been any more enjoyable from start to finish. It truly was a masterpiece. From the pre-game introduction with Iverson being greeted with a loud applause and retorting towards the crowd with his trademark "hand to the ear" move to the opening moments, mid-game, and the end it was chock full of action.

There were more lead changes than hoagies being served at a Slack's Hoagie Shack. And, all of the usual suspects delivered. Both Andres, Sammy D, and of course Iverson delivered in big ways.

The Sixers couldn't have done it without Andre Miller though, who brought his A-game.

This game had the makings of a shootout from the first period and while it wasn't quite like the Denver-Detroit game from the other night, it was still very exciting.

I felt privileged to have watched a game like this last night and the pre-game intro really sent chills down my spine. And, it was a satisfying win over an offensive juggernaut.

Most importantly, it was good to see Allen Iverson give a little something back to the fans who supported him for so many years.

Yes-he was bad for the team in many ways, but (read my comments yesterday) the fact remains he was an electrifying athlete. And, for those of you who like sports for the entertainment aspect, he delivered in that department for 10 years and continues to do so; it's just not winning basketball, which is what I care about more ultimately.

I still like the Sixers a good deal better with Andre Miller running the show. He looks like a very capable point guard, one capable of leading this team to a championship once they have some more pieces in place. Yes, he's 32 years old, but that Nash fellow in Phoenix is still playing at a high level. And, don't forget John Stockton, who played for 19 seasons. And, even in his 19th season, he was still a quality point.

But, a great win last night for Philadelphia's new hope for a title in the next few years. The Sixers are going to only get better and now stand at .500 for the first time this late in the season in two years.

Great analysis of the game and Iverson. While he was bad for the team in many ways, he did a lot of good for the team. Wednesday night brought back the good memories.
