Embarrassing

Flyers close the season with embarrassing 6-0 defeat

Many people will point to the fact that the Flyers were just the second team in NHL history who went from first place to the conference finals this year.

That is fine and good and yes a great leap, but it doesn't excuse the total lack of effort today. They displayed less effort in today's romp than a preseason game and it was disgusting on just about every possible level.

How do you analyze a game like this? You can't point out anything positive one player did on the Flyers (if there was) because the bottom line is the whole team lost 6-0 and nobody deserves any credit in a debacle like this.

It hurts even more to see Penguins fans celebrating as if they're deserving of having a Stanley Cup team. After all, this is a franchise that was a pubic hair away from moving out of town to Kansas City. Now all of a sudden these bandwagon fans look like the most passionate fans in the world.

Where were they during the Penguins' lean years over the better part of the past half a decade?

Truth be told, Flyers fans are about as loyal of a fan base you can get. Even during the worst season in franchise-history last year they showed up and you can't say that about too many teams in professional sports.

Hats off to the Penguins to knocking off the Flyers, but it's disheartening to see a season end this way. I am never satisfied with a season ending in defeat because it's been happening for all four majors since 1983, but 6-0 is inexcusable no matter how you look at it.
