The Bat Comes Through

Pat Burrell hits pinch-hit homer in 8th to lead Phils to 7-5 win

Last night was a homecoming of sorts for the Phillies who went to Houston for the first time to face the Astros since Ed Wade took over. For some reason Comcast decided to keep focusing on Wade during the game, which was rather annoying.

Pat Burrell was the latest Phillie to wake up from the dead after Ryan Howard's recent renaissance, who is hitting .304 since May 7th (17 for 26).

Burrell has been a flat out bottom feeder, hitting just .143 with a homer and 2 RBI in his last 15 games. So, Charlie Manuel decided to let the bat rest and step in as a pinch hitter.

The move resulted in a victory for the Phillies.

Who said that Charlie Manuel makes nothing but bad decisions? This was a tactical decision of brilliance and one that hopefully will get The Bat back on track.

In addition to the homecoming for the Phils it was one for Brad Lidge, who pitched against his former team for the first time and he was money once again, notching his 12th save.

The Phils will go back at them again tonight, same time, same place.

Great win for the Phils. Too bad they lost their past 2 games in horrific fashion!
