So Unbelievable

Phillies rally for 6 runs in the 9th to shock the Mets

Joe Blanton's debut as a Phillie hardly went well. His line went like this: 6 innings, 5 runs, 8 hits, 1 strikeout, and 3 walks. 4 of those runs came on a pair of homeruns and he was going for a quality start, but at the end of the day; you are what you are and he had a poor debut.

That put the Phils into an early hole, which has so-often maligned this team this year.

Heading into the 9th inning, they were down 5-2. It appeared this game was over after Santana pitched superbly for 8 innings and they handed it off to Duaner Sanchez since Billy Wagner is out with a bum shoulder.

And, that's when the rally was on. So Taguchi of all players, the guy whom has become this year's version of Roberto Horrendous Hernandez, Marlon Byrd, and Desi Relaford came to life with a 2-run double to tie the game. Jimmy Rollins then hit a 2-run double to make it 7-5. And, that was all they needed as they tacked on another run to make it 8-5 and ultimately held the Mets off in the bottom of the ninth for an 8-6 win.

Jimmy Rollins had to step up in this series and his timing couldn't have been any better as he went 0 for 4 in his first 4 at-bats before hitting the game-winning double.

The Phils are now 1 game up on the Mets for first place in the east.

Brett Myers makes his return tonight and will go on the hill against John Maine.
